Remote mentoring
Is remote mentoring the whole of my child's education?
No. It's one part of their EOTAS package, alongside whatever else is in Section F. That's deliberate: mentoring works best as a steady thread through the week, not the whole week.
My child hates cameras. Can they still take part?
Yes. Camera off is fine, and so is typing in the chat instead of talking. We go at their pace and build trust first.
What happens if my child can't face a session?
Some days are harder than others. Let us know, and we'll offer a short check-in or a message instead so the connection isn't lost. Sessions cancelled with 48 hours' notice aren't charged.
Who will work with my child?
An experienced TAM autism mentor with an enhanced DBS check. We match mentors to young people carefully and keep the same mentor wherever we can.
Is The Autism Navigator included?
Yes. Sessions are built around it, and your child gets their own access as part of the package, to use between sessions if they'd like to.
EOTAS coordination
What's the difference between an EOTAS coordinator and a SENDCo?
A SENDCo works inside a school and coordinates support there. When your child is educated otherwise than at school, there's no equivalent role, so the joining-up usually falls on parents. A coordinator fills that gap.
We already have great tutors and therapists. Do we still need you?
Good professionals are a brilliant start. But each one works in their own lane, and someone still has to join it all up. If that someone is you, a coordinator takes it off your plate.
My child won't join meetings. Will that be a problem?
Not at all. We gather their views however suits them: writing, drawing, a voice note, or a trusted adult speaking for them. Their voice matters far more than their attendance at a meeting.
What happens if the package goes back to panel?
We gather evidence from every professional and your child, and help make sure the local authority has a clear, well-evidenced picture. We don't give legal advice; if you need it, we'll point you to IPSEA or a specialist solicitor.
Can you help with annual reviews and transitions?
Yes, it's one of the most useful things we do. We prepare reports, gather everyone's views, chair or support the meeting, and follow up the changes.
Funding and getting started
Can the EHCP pay for this?
It can. Both our services can be written into Section F of the EHCP like any other provision. Our caseworkers page has suggested wording and costings you can share with your local authority. Some families also pay from a personal budget or direct payment.
Do you need to come to our house?
No. Everything we do for EOTAS is online, so it doesn't matter where in England you live. Many autistic young people find that easier than a new person in their home.
Can you do both mentoring and coordination for my child?
We can, but we'll always be upfront about it. If we coordinate a package and also deliver mentoring in it, we declare that in writing to you and the local authority, and it's always your choice. Some families prefer an independent coordinator, and that's completely fine.
What if it's not working out?
No long contracts. After the first month, coordination runs month to month, with a month's notice either way. If something isn't working, tell us and we'll talk it through.
